Learn About the 2023 Reassessment

Learn About the 2023 Reassessment

πŸ“£πŸ“£πŸ“£ Every three years, communities across the State are required to perform property revaluations in order to set the most accurate and equitable tax rate possible.

Newport’s 2023 update is a statistical revaluation which relies on sales data from the previous year and is meant reflect the market value of each property as of Dec. 31, 2023, with final assessments taking into account things such as general market appreciation and any improvements made to individual properties since the City’s last revaluation.

Since Rhode Island General Law states that the tax levy cannot increase more than 4 percent from year to year, and because the City’s budget process is still several months away, property owners πŸ”΄ should not use the existing tax rate to estimate their future bills. πŸ”΄  For more information on ANY of the above, head over to www.CityofNewport.com/Assessor

NEWPORT, R.I. (THURSDAY, April 4, 2024) – A portion of the southern end of Newport’s idyllic Cliff Walk has been closed for repairs.

The decision follows the discovery of a sinkhole first reported by a community member through the City’s 311 ReportIt! Newport app.

The roughly ¼ mile-long closure, which extends from the tunnel due east of Clarendon Court to the stairs leading to the Miramar sidewalk, is part of the Cliff Walk’s more rugged southern section.
