SPECIAL ELECTION SET FOR SENATE DISTRICT 13 - NEWPORT AND JAMESTOWN

Pursuant to RIGL §17-3-6, Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea has called for a special election to fill the Senatorial District 13 vacancy left by the resignation of Senator Paiva Weed.  The special election has been scheduled for August 22, 2017, with a Democratic Primary to be held July 18, 2017.

MAIL BALLOT APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE:

The regular mail ballot period for the July 18, 2017 Democratic Primary has ended.  We have now entered the Emergency Ballot period.  Registered voters who are unable to go to the polls on July 18, 2017 due to circumstances manifested twenty (20) days or less prior to July 18, 2017 may cast a ballot in the Canvassing Office, located on the 1st Floor of City Hall, during regular business hours beginning June 28, 2017 at 8:30 AM through July 17, 2017 at 4:00 PM.  Voters are still eligible to receive a ballot by mail during this period.  Please see the Emergency Mail Ballot Application below:

Regular Mail Ballot applications for the August 22, 2017 Special Election will be accepted through the August 1, 2017 4:00 PM deadline.

* Please note:  There will only be a DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY on July 18, 2017.  The Democratic Primary is open to registered Democrats and unaffiliated voters only.  Unaffiliated voters that apply for a ballot (either by mail or at the polls) will automatically become affiliated with the Democratic party.  Disaffiliation forms will be provided at the polls.  If you are applying by mail, or wish to disaffiliate after the primary, you may submit a new voter registration form to the Board of Canvassers, or update your registration by using the link to the VOTER INFORMATION CENTER in the section below.
