Newport: Investing in our Waterfront

DREDGING. This winter, Newport completed a $475,000 dredging project to remove 10,000 cubic yards of silt from the north easternmost corner of the inner harbor.

The dredged material was collected on a 140' scow, and transported up to the Providence Harbor contained aquatic disposal (CAD) site. This area will now be navigable, with a uniform depth of 9 feet, enabling the installation of new piers and docks at Perrotti Park this Spring and setting the stage for future expansion along Long Wharf.

HARBOR CENTER

HARBOR CENTER. Securing a $713,000 US Fish and Wildlife Boating Infrastructure grant, Newport is planning to develop a new harbor center transient boating facility and in the historic Armory on lower Thames Street.

Plans also include increasing dinghy and transient yacht dock capacity at the City-owned Ann Street Pier, located next to the Armory complex.

NEW LANDING PIER/DOCKS AT PERROTTI PARK. Newport is enhancing its capacity to handle ferry, cruise ship and water shuttle traffic with the installation of new piers, docks and a gazebo at Perrotti Park in the main harbor area. This $580,000 project is almost complete.

KING PARK/ROCHAMBEAU SEAWALL. Newport invested $644,000 for this restoration project.

VAN ZANDT PIER. This $305,000 project rebuild this very popular pier in the Point section of Newport.

KING PARK STONE PIER AND LIGHTS. $74,000 worth of repairs to principal boater access in the southern part of Newport Harbor.
