On the morning of June 24th, 2004 a 92-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer's took his dog for a walk in Westerly, Rhode Island. The dog returned home shortly afterward, but the man did not. Lieutenant Toscano with the Westerly Police Department contacted A Child Is Missing to report the missing man immediately after his disappearance.
A Child Is Missing placed 273 calls within a 1-mile radius. A resident who received our telephone alert call gave the search team a location where the subject was seen. He was located in that area a short time later, where he had fallen and was unable to get back up.
Lieutenant Toscano was quoted as saying "Thanks to A Child Is Missing, the subject was located with information from a person who was called. This saved much time in the search and was very useful". Over the past 28 months, Law enforcement has credited A Child is Missing with 58 safe successful recoveries due to our telephone alert calls. (June 24, 2004).
Kids In Cars (Harrison's Hope)
At Kids in Cars, we want to protect our most precious cargo and assist in making sure that no child is ever, for a moment, left alone in a motor vehicle. We want to be there for victims and help touch the lives of others through their emotional and brave stories. If we can work together and share our knowledge, then these tragedies can be prevented. After all, saving just one life would make all of the difference in the world, for every life is precious.
Abuse happens in every culture, every country, and every age group, and it may be happening to you. If you are being abused, you may feel frightened, hurt, confused, disappointed, angry, ashamed, or hopeless. Your partner might make it worse by blaming you. But no one deserves to be abused or threatened. You cannot stop your partner's abuse, but you can find help and support for yourself.
The AMBER Plan is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies and broadcasters to activate an urgent bulletin in the child-abduction cases. Broadcasters use the Emergency Alert System (EAS), formerly called the Emergency Broadcast System, to air a description of the missing child and suspected abductor.
Once law enforcement has been notified about an abducted child, they must first determine if the case meets the AMBER Plan's criteria. Each program establishes its own AMBER Plan criteria; however, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children suggests three criteria that should be met before an Alert is activated.
