Wellington Avenue CSO Treatment Facility Upgrades

Contract #16-002

In accordance with the City’s System Master Plan (SMP), the City is advancing projects related to the long-term control of combined sewer overflows (CSOs). Included in the SMP is the proposal to increase the pumping capacity at the Wellington Avenue CSO Treatment Facility (WACSOTF) as part of the plan to eliminate CSO discharges from the facility. The scope of the proposed improvements at the WACSOTF include the existing pumping system, force main to the Thames Street interceptor, chlorination system, instrumentation and controls, and flood protection measures. Due to the age of the facility which went into service in 1978, additional areas for improvement were identified including but not limited to the electrical system, lighting, HVAC, and miscellaneous improvements necessary for compliance with codes. Construction was initiated in January, 2016, and will be completed in early 2017.
