    Department of Utilities- Announcements - Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Status

  • In October 2010 the City initiated a smoke testing program of the sanitary sewers system and a building inspection program in selected areas.

    The areas have been determined by the initial results of our flow metering program in the sanitary sewer system. The flow metering program assists in identifying areas where excessive rainwater enters the sanitary sewer system. Letters will be mailed to residents in the study areas for both the smoke testing and building inspection programs.

    • The Federal Government agrees to back flood insurance in exchange for communities enacting and enforcing floodplain regulations (44 CFR 59 and 60 ). As mandated by Federal Regulations, new FIRM Maps must be accepted by communities participating in the Flood Insurance Program.

    • The City of Newport, Rhode Island is accepting applications for the consideration of future appointments to the position of Police Officer with the Newport Police Department.

    • Newport Police Department has developed the Return Home Safe Program. This program will assist in the safe and timely return of individuals who may wander and require police assistance to locate.

      Individuals at high risk for wandering include: children or adults with Autism, Alzheimers disease, dementia, Down syndrome, and other developmental disabilities. MORE

      As a service to our residents and the business community, Newport Police Department is proud to announce a partnership with GetCrashReports.com to provide online access to all Newport Rhode Island crash reports. All crash reports will be available 48 hours after the crash occurs (or sooner if approved) except for Fatal crashes and crashes under investigation. Fatal crash reports must be purchased at the Newport Police Department.

      As of January 26, 2010, all requests from businesses for Newport Police crash reports will be referred to GetCrashReports.com. Accident reports can still be obtained at the Newport Police Station 120 Broadway, Newport R.I. 401-847-1306.

      GetCrashReports.com allows individual or multiple crash reports to be purchased with major credit cards or with a Pre-Paid account. To purchase a single crash report, go to GetCrashReports.com and follow the simple 5 step process. To purchase multiple reports at once, you must setup a Subscriber account with GetCrashReports.com.

      To setup a Subscriber account, click on "Subscriber Login" on GetCrashReports.com and click the "New Subscriber" link. A representative from GetCrashReports.com will contact you within 24 hours to setup an online account.

      Owners of properties on designated sticker-parking streets are entitled to one guest/visitor pass per dwelling unit at no cost. The City issues plastic hangtags that are to be kept and utilized from year to year. The tags remain with the property in the event of a sale. The Tax Collector's office mails annual decals in April of each year which should be placed on the hangtag. In the event that a hangtag is lost or destroyed, the first replacement requires a signed affidavit, accompanied with a $10 fee. If necessary, one final replacement can be authorized with a second affidavit and a $25 fee.
