For nearly 150 years, the dedicated people operating Newport’s water systems have safeguarded the health and well-being of the public by providing high-quality drinking water. Every day, Newport’s water staff monitor and analyze the drinking water throughout our entire system – from our treatment plant to your tap – to minimize your exposure to lead and protect your health.
You may have heard about the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s recent changes to its Lead and Copper Rule. The EPA’s new regulations are designed to reduce the amount of lead in drinking water nationwide and they are in addition to the measures taken by the state in June 2023 These revisions are intended to improve public protection from the risks of lead exposure by getting the lead out of our nation’s service lines, better-protecting children at schools and childcare facilities, and empowering communities through information.
To get the lead out, Newport is required to find out what makes up the entire service line that connects our main to your home or business. While we are investigating the line which is our responsibility, we need your help when it comes to finding out what material makes up the line inside your home or business that you are responsible for. Below, you will find a helpful video that explains how you can be exposed to lead through your drinking water, view graphics and pictures to help to find and identify your service line, and a short survey you can fill out and send for the inventory work Newport must complete under the Lead and Copper Rule
We understand EPA’s new regulations may create added interest in our efforts, so we’ve updated this page to provide you with more information. This page will be updated as we continue our work to keep you safe.
